Torborg's Sox a special breed

It was time for chins up and stiff upper lips.

The White Sox were in danger of sliding clear out of the pennantchase, even before next week's big visit from Oakland.

So it was time for Jeff Torborg to hold a team meeting beforeWednesday night's game with Toronto.

What did you tell them, Jeff?

"You focus on how good you've really been, and what you'veaccomplished with a lot of hard work . . . To accomplish what we'veaccomplished is really amazing. I'm so darn proud of them, andthat's the thing I wanted them to know."

So this was an up-beat meeting?

"That's all you can be when somebody gives you 100 per cent."
